Picking your friends nose
We all know the saying: You can pick your friends; you can pick your nose, but you can't pick your friend's nose. Well, I used to think the same thing applied to pants wetting.
Today, Xavier demonstrated that apparently you can wet your mom's pants.
How it happened: Well, we were sleeping all cozy in our bed (yes, I am admitting it. We are one of those crazy families who sleep with their babies--it is just so fun to have him cuddle up next to me and sleep so well!). Xavier woke up and wanted to nurse. I picked him up and nursed, laying him across my chest so that his bottom was resting in my arms just over my lap. A few minutes later, I felt warm wetness. He had peed and leaked all over my lap! When I moved to set him down I realized that I had been sitting in a puddle of his pee, too! AAHHH and so then my bottom was also wet. I was wet front to back!

Yoga Baby
Cherry took Xavier to a "Baby and Me" yoga class several months ago at our awesome yoga studio a few blocks away. From time to time she still does some of the exercises with him that she learned there. At this age, they don't really do poses, but that hasn't stopped us from catching Xavier trying a few:

Learning Virtues: Patience
We've been impressed with Xavier's growth and development, which seems to be skyrocketing. (We'll post shortly some photos and clips of him starting to crawl.) However one of the most intriguing developments we've been noticing is that of patience.
Most noticeably, if he's hungry and fussy but sees that we're prepping a bottle for him, he'll often calm down and just watch while we finish. He's made the connection that we understood and are working to address his needs, and so he doesn't have to cry in the meantime. It's a surprising (and encouraging) little bit of patience from a 6-month old.
He's certainly teaching us patience in many other ways too, but it's nice to see that we're all learning to better communicate and understand, and thus are more able to deal with the situations that arise in our lives.

Have Passport, Will Travel
Despite all our preparation, it still ended up being a slightly frustrating ordeal when we went to apply for Xavier's passport. Nonetheless, the document arrived today, shiny and new (and in under two weeks)!
He's now set to jet off with us on some future foreign adventure! Congratulations, my little boy!

I'm a good swimmer. I'm just slow.
You know the expression: "to leave someone (or something) in your dust"? Well, in the swimming world, I found out today, the expression is: to leave someone in your bubbles. I felt like I was swimming in soda pop.
I went to the Wilson Aquatic Center to go swimming today. I quickly realized how popular the lap pool is on a Saturday morning. From the observation deck I observed fourteen people in one of the lanes. I didn't know if I should continue with my planned swim or not.
Well, I got to the pool. In my lane, the one marked SLOW, there were only 10 swimmers. Still intimidating. I considered getting into the lane marked LEISURE, but I was there with hand-paddles and a stop watch/lap counter. I was clearly not there for leisure. I am a good swimmer, and a serious swimmer, I am just slow. Besides, there were many people in the leisure lane also.
So, I got in. The great thing about swimming is that under the water all is calm and quiet. You may not even notice other people in the same lane as you if you are all going about the same pace. I experienced this the last time I swam. There were about 5 people in my lane and several times I thought everyone had left and I was alone. But when I stopped and looked I realized that I was certainly not alone.
Anyway, back at the pool... I got in the SLOW lane and started swimming. I really had a few very enjoyable laps. I really enjoy the sound of the water and the rhythm of my breathing. Anyway, a couple of people passed me. No big deal. That's how it goes when eleven people are sharing one lane. Well, I got passed again. And then again. And again. I was feeling like maybe I should have chosen the LEISURE lane until I realize that I was getting passed by the same two people every time. And if the same two people were always passing me and there were eight other people in the pool, they must be passing those other eight people as well. If this was the case, maybe these two were not really slow swimmers, but taking advantage of the lane with fewer people.
To this I say: If you are not a slow swimmer, don't use the slow lane!

Favorite things
Little Xavier is growing by leaps and bounds! This blog post is meant to illustrate some of little Xavey’s new favorite things and things to do.
First and foremost, he loves fingers and fists! As talked about in previous posts, he loves his own, mine, yours, and really anyone’s!

He also loves to jump! We got him a Baby Einstein activity jumper and he LOVES to bounce in it! Since discovering how to bounce, he takes every opportunity he can to bounce in our laps, on the floor, coach or bed (his balance is, of course, assisted).

He also loves to just sit and spit. He just presses his lips together and blows. He covers himself with slobber puddles! In fact, he is sitting on my lap now just spitting away. What a life…

He has also started to play more with stuffed animals and other toys. It is so fun to see him interact with things around him. I get so excited along with him at all of his new discoveries.

In fact, yesterday he discovered the joys of salads! Okay, in truth, we are not yet feeding him solids. He was sitting on daddies lap during supper and thought he would have a nose. He has started to be more interested in things on the table. I think it is more thought of as a toy, though, rather than really being interested in food.

His latest thing, though, seems to be his discovery of textures. He has started to just rub and rub his fingers and hand across the carpet and blankets. It is so cute!

Another favorite is playing in the mirror. (Not sure what is up with the picture orientation).

He isn’t really interested in sitting, but loves to stand. He does this whenever he can. He will stand and hold onto things, but then lets go and falls. Luckily for him, I am close by ready to catch him!

Moreover, he has started to move! He doesn’t crawl yet, but has really started to scoot himself around. This picture illustrates this. One morning I set him down in the middle of his play mat while I made some oatmeal for myself. When I came two minutes later, he had rolled over and pushed himself all the way to the wall. Wow!

One of my favorites is that he sleeps much better!

sigh... he's growing up!
